Traffic Generating Power Behind A Domain Name
Often the prevalent thought in choosing a domain name for a new online business is to choose one that is either a catchy or flashy name, more often easy to remember and hopefully related to the main topic of the website. But one should also consider the power a domain name has in generating traffic. From the standpoint of direct type-ins and natural search engine traffic a domain name is much more than just an address. The name chosen has the power to directly influence the amount of traffic a website gets from type-ins and search engines. One of the best strategies a business to use is to take advantage of website forwarding. Website forwarding is the service of forwarding traffic from one domain name to another. Often this is done so that a business can register spelling variations of their chosen domain name and often this strategy is used in choosing names for arbitration traffic. Arbitration traffic is common misspellings of a name which is a fairly common occurence these days. Here are a few tips on harnessing the power of a domain name: * When registering select other TLD, top level domain, names such as .org or .net extensions. * Register misspellings of the domain name to make use of the arbiration factor in direct browser type-ins. * Also try to think of alternative names that sound similar to the chosen domain name. One thing you should remember is that not all people spell words the same. A lot of people spell phonetically, in other words how the word sounds is how they spell it. * Try to get domain names that describe your business and make use of the website forwarding feature offered by most registrars. A tip to consider on multiple domain name registrations is that search engines generally rank websites higher for having other domain names that forward to them. So for the minor cost of having a second or third domain name you could actually gain thousands of extra website visitors monthly through natural search engine traffic and that my frend is cheap traffic considering you can get domain names for around 10 bucks a piece these days. |
